Tips for playing in an amateur orchestra

The Guardian published a few tips for playing in an amateur orchestra on 1 September 2016. Here they are: 1 Turn up early. Music, and your part in it, needs time – to get your brain ready, as much as your reeds or strings. 2 Be prepared. Look at your part (many can be found on the public domain music site IMSLP) and listen to the pieces (try YouTube or Spotify) beforehand. 3 Never be without a pencil to take notes during rehearsals. Luton Music Service pupils are celebrating achieving excellent exam results in this summer’s music exams. Not only were brilliant results gained by the Trinity, LCM and RockSchool candidates but, between them, the ABRSM candidates achieved 25 passes, 34 merits and 23 distinctions! Well done, everybody!

Luton Youth Cantores’ Paris Tour

Paris had the opportunity to enjoy the sounds and songs of the Luton Youth Cantores Choir on their recent trip to the city. The choir, made up of 53 girls, aged between 12 and 19, gave two performances during their stay.  The first was at the Videopolis Stage at Disneyland Paris where they performed a variety of songs, including a medley of tunes from many of the Disney films.  The second performance took place at the Eglise de la Madeleine, a famous church in the centre of Paris, where they sang for an audience of more than 300 in both English and French.
