Join a group

There’s nothing quite like the experience of playing in an orchestra or band. Being a member of a music group is great fun, and helps you get even better as a musician. Learning an instrument in school or privately is one thing, but the skills a musician gains from making music in a group are an important part of their progression – in music, and as people.

The Mix, through Luton Music Service (LMS), offers all sorts of groups for you to join at Saturday Music Centre, as well as Luton Youth Jazz Orchestra, Luton Youth Concert Band, Luton Youth Cantores, Luton Youth Orchestra, Luton Youth Percussion Orchestra and Boyz Make Some Boyz (boys’ choir), which run on weeknights – see below for more information.

You can join most of the LMS groups below at any time during the school term, and go along for a free trial session. Membership starts from £35.00 (around £3.50 per week per session – amazing value) – see the application forms below for more details.

We also offer free memberships and discounts as follows:
Young people entitled to free school meals or who are looked-after – free membership
Pupils learning with LMS or Hub Accredited Tutors  – 31-35% discount
Luton residents – 12-18% discount

These are brilliant opportunities for young people to make friends, have fun, and improve their music skills – and they’re low cost because they’re subsidised by our music education hub grant.

Three of our partners in The Mix also offer lessons and other opportunities in a range of instruments, genres and settings:
